Yeah! Did that once, many years back. took a couple weeks. Used a ripper program that went out on the net and got all the metadata, saved to a HD (now on the third one). Put the CDs in Logic cases (no-wear), recycled the jewelboxes.
Over time, started to drop album folders into VLC, save the playlists, at ur fingertips.
FLAC is good, but not necessary for background listening. At 192k the average song is ~ 5Mb. 100k x 5 = 0.5 TB.
With a long, varied list of select internet radio stations, you can choose what genre (or special weekly show) you want to listen to at the moment. Picked by people, not algorithms. Keep a playlist of the stations you like best, startup your player (like VLC) with the list, and pick the one you’re in the mood for.
Or you could just collect mp3s locally for choosier days, dump a bunch of them into VLC, listen to them in album or random order. In either case, at no cost.

It took many generations to be able to put the truth out there like this. Over and over until people recognize that -openly- living the truth, in a world where lying is so easy, is the definition of courage. And of real freedom.
Hmmm. I never learned most of this in high school. Hmmm. I wonder if that might have helped understand the harder stuff later… changed how I do stuff. But hey, I did learn how to make napkin holders and bird houses.

If it’s such a good idea, why aren’t the private RR companies getting together to ask that question? Questions like: who pays for it? what does ‘high speed mean’ (150mph average = about 20 hours), why transcontinenal (SF to NY is mostly EMPTY) and who’d benefit the most (not most of US).
I read the other day that some company is making JET fuel entirely of human poo. Sounds like saner option.

There might be a slim chance. But in the words of mid-20th-century writer Robert Anton Wilson,

Eventually there has to be one, so try to hold on to that idea.
Think you’re right about the lack of innovation being a big part of it. They’re still out there, waiting for someone to think of them.
Cyberspace is BIG. The options are wide open. For example, being part of one community project with no borders making something with long-lasting value, for example. (Cities!) Moving on to another you’re even better fitted-to. That you know you can look back at one day and be glad you were part of.
