Supposed to be an easy, if not a drop in replacement afaik, it’s under a permissive licence (Apache 2.0), beyond that it’s authored by RedHat I can’t tell you much else, it’s something I’ve been considering moving to personally (and work, pretty much for licencing and the few of us that want to use more open tech stacks) I just haven’t had a chance to work with it.

If you’re not familiar with the table, use a select top 10 * from table if you’re on sqlserver, postgresql uses limit and oracle has fetch.

Don’t recommend select * without limits or conditions unless you absolutely know the table, you can very quickly make a DBA unhappy

I actually really like Metro, live tiles are criminally underused and imo it gets a lot of hate becauae of how microsoft pushed it in windows 8, but for a touch interface it’s clean and really nice to use. Loved the sideways laid out apps too on windows phone and windows rt, wp itself was actually really nice to use and I actually kinda miss my lumia 1020

Will echo the recommendations of debian or mint. I have mint on my 13 year old rog laptop, it’s my lab computer and runs klipper for one of my printers, pretty much always up, very rarely reboots. Debian is what I run on my 4 year old zenbook s, pretty much perfect for my uses, it’s what I cart around for light/mobile work and I swear it actually has better battery life than it did running windows.

A good chunk of it is relating to the elastic search stack, yeah it’s a thing people do.

I don’t think that’s unpopular at all, I only ever used vent in highschool and uni, some of the groups I ran with even went back to vent from TS becauae of the sound quality. It was simple and easy to use and pretty much everyone had it.

I have an nvme enclosure with a 256 gig drive in it, I think I partitioned a quarter of it for ventoy, rest is for regular storage. It’s really nice to have if I do family support, have any iso I need and any utility I might need on top of that. Is it overkill for my needs? Yeah, but it’s nice to have and I didn’t go for anything fancy, just a cheap crucial drive.

I have a half thought that maybe bing works well for technical searches because it’s the default search engine for edge and depending on the company, you may or may not be able to use a different browser and I’ll be real, I tend to leave my work laptop setting as default as possible unless particularly awful.

Interestingly, bing of all things turns up better results than Google with the same search terms, first 3 blocks are “popular results”, first is tutorial sites, second is w3 schools and third takes you to the current docs for functions and operators.

If you ignore those, the fourth result takes you to the current docs for comparison functions and operators. I’d prefer it taking you right to the official docs on the first result, but comparatively acceptable. It was memed to death but I’ve seriously found it more useful than Google these days, comparable to ddg’s results.

I compressed some of the 4k rips I did, all my dvd and 1080p blurays, it’s the HDR only that’s stopped me from some of them as I found I lost it with the settings I was using and I put it on the “list of things I’ll come back to later” shelf.

I recall some banding on a few of the dvd rips, probably was a little too aggressive with the settings I used, but they’re still definitely watchable

I have LOTR directors cut on my server, haven’t bothered reencoding it because I’m not super experienced with keeping hdr 10 going to h265 or equivalent. Return of the king alone is around 130 gigs across two files, jellyfin says its bitrate is about 70 mbps.

Just browsing documentation can have me hitting that number of tabs easy. I tend to open stuff in new tabs so I can flip back and forth. Also if I’m searching for error messages I like to open in new tabs so I don’t have to continuously go back and forth. I won’t kill a tab until I know I’m done with it, I have a tab sleep extension to save resources for long idle tabs. Tab groups are a nice feature that I would love in Firefox to help clean things up, I tend to use new windows and virtual desktops to compartmentalise tasks.

Afaik that’s actually something steam does though, tools like Depot Downloader combined with SteamDB to get the metadata for a target version totally work, I’ve used that in the past to downgrade Skyrim before disabling auto updates. You can do it through the steam console as well.

In an alternate timeline I totally should have bought bitcoin when it was memed on and was literally sub pennies. On the other hand, anyone I know with wallets that old either have lost access to them or spent them when they went to a few dollars so likely wouldn’t be any different
