What the fuck, how this can even be not a meme…
You‘re doing well, young Linux fellow
To me systemd is fine, I am not really emotional at init systems. But on the other hand Linux is about choice and systemd kills that in some way because it does so much more than just starting services. GNOME is unusable without systemd, which makes it a no choice if you go into another rabbit hole. It’s kinda weird how deeply systemd is integrated in Linux these days. What I really dislike is that the log is in binary format by default which makes it necessary to deal with another tool to read logs. But well software changes, so do tools. But honestly the devs acted like dick heads sometimes, so I think most of the antipathy comes from their behavior and well yes MS now kinda pushing systemd because poettering works for them. I have fear that MS forces the systemd devs to implement things you cannot simply opt out of because it is so tightly integrated. Maybe copilot for writing systemd unit files would be nice though :P
At least the Arch Wiki gives me a hint where to look at. Even for enterprise stuff sometimes.
I discovered wezterm a few weeks ago and it is really neat, works even on windows. So I can share config files between my private and my work machine. It is kinda similar to alacritty but I don’t like how the developers of alacritty talk to people on GitHub, like they are really arrogant.
I had the same need and didn’t want to read tooo much about ffmpeg and its options. I ended up using fastflix which uses ffmpeg under the hood with built in presets. Supports queues and lots of more stuff.
RedHat CoreOS derives from Fedora which is the underlying OS of OpenShift - so this is really interesting because it is not like in the old days „this is a problem for future me when RHEL 15 drops in 10 years“. They are quite pushing hard with CoreOS, at least in OKD which uses Fedora CoreOS.
Oh this remembered me of that I do have an account since last year and just used it to argue with some fan boys about if Bluesky is full FOSS or not (it’s not)
Dont think so. Desktop application relies on podman
That is not true anymore. https://podman-desktop.io/docs/compose/running-compose
I ended up using 3rd party controllers with 2,4Ghz dongles like 8bitdo. I even blacklisted the Bluetooth kernel module because it is so borked.
No daemon needed, better security because of rootless approach, but well docker also runs rootless nowadays. Podman came up from frustration from Red Hat over docker, that’s why they developed their own thing. Afaik it is nearly full compatible and can be used as a drop in replacement for docker.
What exit code shows when you execute podman ps -a?
My system was built with the intention being a rock solid Linux gaming system. I also went with AMD (6700xt I think) and a cheap i5 12400F CPU. Never had any real issues running this thing with Arch (btw) til today. Thanks amd, thanks valve, thanks WINE devs.
Oh I don’t give a single fuck about the discussion, it’s technology, not politics. I am more upset that my company has some legacy repositories with master and the newer ones with a main branch. So everytime I want to create a MR with push options via command line I need to change main to master or visa versa.
I don’t see a real „versus“ here. Wayland will definitely become the standard display server for Linux distributions. This is not sysV init vs systemd or something else. As pointed out by lots of ppl here X11 is old and insecure because it is from another time and does not fit into modern systems and requirements, thus it is way easier to start new and fresh instead of working around for any feature needed and maintain such a old code base. The only downside for me personally is that Wayland does not support always on top windows automatically. So either right click the window or use plugins for videos from Firefox for example. AFAIK this is also for security reasons. I run Wayland on my main machine for years now, no problems at all. If I got the choice I would always go for Wayland. Even Cinnamon has experimental Wayland support now and hopefully will make the switch soon.
AKAI MPC standalones running some kind of Linux flavor https://niklasnisbeth.gitlab.io/mpc-internals/
Too bad they won’t release their DAW software for Linux desktops.
Well there is bazzite or chimera
The next job offer I will accept needs to have free choice of OS. I work with Linux systems and Kubernetes only, no Winshit but I am forced to use this shitty piece of crap of software. It is slow, buggy and clumsy as hell - maybe because of all the corporate software stuff and GPOs, the only office tools I need are outlook and teams, no word or excel but you cannot remove all the other stuff afaik. Updating is hell because it is controlled by our IT department, sometimes my laptop needs 3 restarts or is stuck in a boot loop. Just let me support myself and let me install some Linux flavor. Don’t need any support from corporate it besides vpn connection. Really fuck companies forcing *nix guys using windows. I know that for sure now. Never again.
Wait I do that and never realized it. YAMLception
